A Message from Co-Founder Kate

Hey friends,

Kate here.  I've been struggling with today's blog post for a while now, as I have some news to share with everyone that I've (honestly) been trying to avoid, as it's extremely bittersweet.  So, instead of beating around the bush any longer, I'm just going to say it...

As of June 1st, I will no longer be part owner of Gather & Mill.

This decision hasn't been an easy one to make because I truly LOVE what Erica and I have created together.  I've been passionate about this business since the beginning, and am so grateful for the experiences and memories made here.  But the time has come for me to move on...  and thankfully, I have my business partner & friend's blessing, support & understanding as I move forward on my life's journey.

This decision may seem sudden, but I've been reflecting for months over this, and have realized it's a necessary one.  You see, it's almost impossible to juggle owning two businesses while also being a present mom to my kids, who are growing faster than I ever imagined.  They are my first priority, and I need to slow down a little bit, and be there for them.

This is a life lesson that doesn't come easy.  It's hard to move on from this business, when I've invested so much personal time, energy and love into something so wonderful.  In just a year, we've brought the community together and created a beautiful curated shop which supports small & local businesses and artists!  I'm honored and proud to be a part of something so fulfilling, even for a short while.

But, it ISN'T totally goodbye; I'll still be around to take photos for the shop's website, social media & advertising...  and I'll occasionally work behind the counter!  This makes the "break-up" a little easier to digest.  And most importantly, I know that the shop will be in good hands.  Erica won't be drastically changing anything: the spirit of our collective goals will live on.  Workshops will remain & awesome gifts made by talented artisans will always be available.  I'm personally excited to see what will manifest from here, because I know anything Erica creates is magnificent.

Also, I'm happy to say that Erica will have additional support from our amazing part-time employee, Kelsey, who will be at the shop more often.  Kelsey is passionate about our mission, and eager to learn about our artisans & help them thrive.  I couldn't think of a better person to help us through this transition!  We will be adding a photo and bio about her on the website soon, so be sure to check that out, and also, please give her a warm welcome when you visit Gather & Mill next time!

Last but not least, I want to thank you for supporting our small business this past year.  We've gotten so much tremendous feedback from our artisans and customers alike, which has helped our business evolve and grow.  You've helped the dream come to fruition and we appreciate you all so much.

It's been a beautiful year, Grass Valley.  Thank you once again for the great memories and friendships made as Gather & Mill co-founder and owner.  I'll be seeing you.
